We Value Diversity

Capella is committed to the development of a multicultural environment. We seek greater diversity in our faculty and staff, to broaden our academic experience and to reflect the diversity that exists within our learner community. We value the input of multiple viewpoints and perspectives across the university and our corporate offices. We strive to create academic and business communities that are rich with cultural, social, and intellectual diversity.

On-Site and Off-Site Positions

On-Site Positions

  • Capella's offices are designed with an open work space setting and common fluorescent lighting. Typical of a corporate business office, there is frequent co-worker interaction and corresponding noise levels. We are in two locations in downtown Minneapolis, and some positions may require daily travel between buildings (approximately 3 blocks), which are skyway accessible.
  • The majority of positions involve frequent usage of telephone, PC and standard monitors.
  • Unless otherwise noted, our positions would require minimal (0–10%) business travel or lifting requirements.

Off-Site Positions

Some of our positions are designed to be remote “home office” settings. These include Faculty Chairs, Core Faculty, Adjunct Faculty, and most Corporate Sales positions.

  • Employees working out of a home office are responsible for providing an appropriate office space, organization and communication tools, and related items. These would include arranging for high speed internet connection, fax, printer, and dedicated phone line for business use. Capella does provide use of a laptop computer. Specifics regarding expense coverage and reimbursement vary based on individual position categories; Human Resources can provide additional information.
  • These positions require the frequent use of telephone, PC, and monitors. There are minimal lifting requirements unless otherwise noted.
  • Adjunct faculty are independent contractors; as such these roles receive a stipend for phone and supplies, but otherwise need to provide for other business items, including computers and other technologies or tools.
  • Work hours are generally flexible, commensurate with an exempt employee working out of a home office. These roles will typically require frequent engagement with Capella Headquarters during business hours.

Travel is required in many of the roles which are based out of a home office: Faculty and Chair roles require travel to learner events periodically during the year, which are reimbursed; most Channel Sales roles are primarily external customer facing, and require frequent travel (local and national). Employees are required to provide own local transportation (and appropriate licensure and insurance as needed.)

Our Location

Capella's main offices are located in downtown Minneapolis, Minnesota, part of the Twin Cities metropolitan area - a dynamic, major metropolitan community consistently ranked among the most livable communities in the U.S. for highly-rated public schools, extensive urban parks and trails systems, access to health care, and more. While most of our academic support, and business positions are based out of our headquarters in Minneapolis, our faculty may reside throughout the United States.
