Capella University Announces $100,000 in Veterans Scholarships
The online university's 20 $5,000 scholarships are eligible for veterans, as well as current servicemembers & their families.
MINNEAPOLIS, July 2, 2008 - In recognition of the service and sacrifice that members of the military, their families, and veterans have made for our country, Capella University has announced a new Veterans Scholarship program that will award 20, $5,000 scholarships this year, totaling $100,000. The scholarships are open to veterans, current servicemembers of any branch of the U.S. military, and current servicemembers' immediate family members. Scholarship applications are due August 1, 2008. Complete eligibility requirements are available on www.capella.edu/armedforces.
Capella University, an accredited*, online university, has significant experience providing bachelor's, master's and doctoral online degree programs to members of the military. More than 3,500 of Capella's students are affiliated with the military—about 16 percent of Capella's student body. Capella University was recently named one of the top military-friendly universities by Military Advanced Education magazine. In addition to the Veterans Scholarships, the university awards five $10,000 Spirit of Capella Scholarships each year to students who have been injured in Operation Enduring Freedom or Operation Iraqi Freedom.
“We're pleased to be able to offer these new scholarships to our current military students, as well as to other members of the military community who want to advance their education,” said Nicole Lovald, Capella University's armed forces & veterans support supervisor, who oversees the team that provides dedicated support to military-affiliated students enrolled at Capella. “Our military students tell us that pursing a degree after returning from combat gives them a new mission and focus. Many also enroll in our programs to either advance their military career or help transition their military skills to a civilian work force.”
